Structured Unstructured

This series revisits one of my favorite subjects, the structure of the house and home; physically, emotionally, and psychically. This easily recognizable object takes on new meaning in these unnatural settings; on the verge of destruction, collapse or pending doom. I want the viewer to write their own narrative but I attempt to help them along by creating a psychological tension. Using mixed media of graphite, gouache, oil, and oil stick on paper, I start with the bones of the structure with graphite and build from there. As graphite drawings they look unspoiled and clean but that is not the story I want to tell, the layering of mediums is where the story starts to unfold.
